Course overview:
At AS, students investigate micro and macro economics. Microeconomics addresses issues such as: ‘Why are house prices so high? Can pollution effectively be controlled? And should governments interfere with markets? The macroeconomic issues covered include: Why does the government have an inflation rate target and how does it affect us? What happens to the economy if people decide to spend more? And how are we affected by the Chinese and Indian economies? At A2 students explore the global context, and the European context in terms of globalisation and economic policy. It is not necessary to have studied Economics at GCSE to be successful in this course, it is more important to be numerate, literate, and analytical and to have an interest in economic issues.
