The Department

The Physical Education department consists of 7 full time PE teachers that including a dance specialist and the school sports coordinator (SSCO) who works with our feeder schools two days per week.

Facilities

Rushcliffe School enjoys excellent sporting facilities in partnership with Rushcliffe Leisure Centre, under a dual use agreement. These facilities include: 

  • 3 full sized football pitches

  • 2 astro turf, all - weather pitches
  • 25m swimming pool
  • Small shallow teaching pool

About Physical Education

All students take part in 2 hours of compulsory PE per week in key stage 3 and 4 and the activities generally change each half term. The timetable of activities is displayed outside the PE office and are available to download here

Successes

We have many teams that represent the school in local and national competitions. We are always one of the schools to beat in area competition and are regularly contesting finals in a variety of sports. Our exam results are good and many pupils go on to study P.E. and sport at a higher level in our sixth form or other colleges.

The Curriculum

Pupils in Key stage 3 take part in a wide variety of activities changing on a half termly basis. The activities include swimming, athletics, cricket, rounders, softball, tennis, netball, football, rugby union, fitness, basketball, badminton, dance, hockey and gymnastics. In Key stage 4 pupils have the opportunity to take part in our leadership program and in year 11 can choose their own pathway in P.E. through our options program. Activities include yoga, aerobics, trampoling and others by demand are available to students.

PE Examinations

In key stage 4 pupils have the opportunity to study Edexcel GCSE P.E., AQA GCSE dance, NCFE Level 2 coaching award (GCSE grade C equivalent) or BTEC extended certificate in sport (2 GCSE A – C equivalent).

In key stage 5 pupils can choose to study OCR A level P.E.

Extra curricular opportunities

There is a varied program for extra curricular activities that covers many sports. We also provide activities club for year 7 and year 8 pupils that covers a range of activities. All of our extra curricular clubs are available to all pupils regardless of ability.
