Welcome to Music at Rushcliffe School

The music department, led by Mr Jones as Head of Music and assisted by Mrs Onions, is a very active faculty, producing several musical events throughout the year. Events are held throughout the year and include a Rock and Pop night, Stars in Our School, GCSE/A Level recital, Winter Concert and a drama/musical production. Recordings of our music events are offered on our telephone system. Other activities include:

Also, students are encouraged to use the departmental facilities for independent work and rehearsals during lunchtime

Private music lessons are organised through the music department and take place in school. The Notts Arts Support Service provide tuition on Keyboard, Guitar, Flute and Upper Strings. We have independent providers for Clarinet, Saxophone and Oboe.

In Key Stage 3 (Years 7 - 9) all years cover four modules.

Year 7

1 x 1 hour lesson per week during which they learn:

  • Stave notation (P)
  • Singing (P)
  • Programme music (C)
  • Form & Structure (C)
  • Musical elements (L)
  • Music and adverts (E)

It is expected that year 7 pupils will achieve a level 4 at this stage of their musical education.

Year 8

1 x 1 hour lesson per week during which they learn:

  • Marches and anthems (P)
  • Hands and voices (P)
  • Theme and variation (C)
  • Composing with chords (C)
  • Musical devices (L)
  • Singing (E)

It is expected that year 8 pupils will achieve level 4 - 5 at this stage of their musical education.

Year 9

1 x 1 hour lesson per week during which they learn:

  • Cover version (P)
  • Drum kit technique (P)
  • Dance eJay (C)
  • Pop Song composition (C)
  • World Music (C)
  • Film Music (E)

It is expected that year 9 pupils will achieve level 5 -6 at this stage of their musical education.
