Best books

I like reading and this week it's World Book Day. Many teachers will dress up as a favourite character. I'm not going to do that ! In assmebly this morning I told the Sixth Form my favourite 5 books. No guarantee they'd be the same 5 if I chose next week but, for what it's worth, here they are :-

5.  Mark Beaumont " The Man who cycled the world". Great adventure. Shows that even the most unlikely things are possible with hard work.

4.Dave Whelan " Playing to win". The man who took Wigan Atheltic to the Premiership. No one thought it was possible. But it happened. And they stayed for 7 years.

3. Sebastian Faulks " Birdsong". War and love combine. What a story.

2.William Boyd " The Blue Afternoon". Clever tale about a man who loved and lost in the Far East.

1. John Fowles " TheMagus". A tale that worked when I was 21 but is less effective today - now I'm a little older. A young man tries to puzzle life out on a Greek island.

And yes. I really ought to read more books by women !!
